International School of Urban Sciences was launched in 2013 at the University of Seoul with an aim to serve a global knowledge exchange platform covering the areas of sustainable urban development, infrastructure development and construction, and environmental management. In particular, we seek to share with the rest of the world Korea’s experience accumulated over the decades of rapid development and urbanization.

Over 100 domestic and overseas students who are working professionals in cross-related fields join us each year and, cumulatively, they represent 70 countries and 5 continents. Domestic students are to advance their knowledge and gain a global perspective so they can actively participate in international development cooperation. Overseas students are to learn about Korea’s policy experiences in addressing development problems while they acquire specialized knowledge in their focus areas.

Together, we aim to produce experts who can offer ‘solutions’ to diverse urban and regional problems, tailored for varying local conditions around the globe and can also effectively engage in the global market and policy community with their expertise. This ability does not only require the state-of-the-art knowledge in the relevant field but also a good amount of international exposure and cross-disciplinary interactions. On top of their real world experience they bring with them, our students add scientific perspectives and knowledge whilst interacting, culturally as well as intellectually, across the diverse student groups we have here at the International School of Urban Sciences.
