■ Introduction of ALES

The Ministry of Government Legislation and the Korea Legislation Research Institute have co-hosted the “Asian Legislative Experts Symposium (ALES)” every year since 2013 and invited experts from academia and public officials from various countries to discuss modification strategies for development of laws and systems. This symposium, held under the slogan “Asia shares legislative experience”, is the result of our Ministry’s efforts to strengthen legislative cooperation among Asian countries.

Our Ministry has continuously strived to share our experience in legislative progress with other Asian countries, because the legislative progress was the foundation for Korea’s economic growth and democratization. ALES was formerly the “Asian Forum of Legislative Information Affairs (AFOLIA).” AFOLIA was held in 2011 and 2012 and since 2013 we have held ALES to enhance understanding about laws and systems that are the consequence of each country’s key policies and to seek legislative solutions to various economic and social problems.

We have 9 times from 2013 to 2021. Thanks to the interest of other Asian countries, ALES has served as a discussion venue to develop strategies for social and economic development of every Asian country.
