Graduation requirements

  • Students must register for at least the required enrollment period [4 years (8 semesters), Architecture major 5 years (10 semesters)].

    Students can only graduate if they complete registration each semester and are registered as students for the semester in which they intend to graduate (Article 51 of the UOS Regulations and Article 2 of UOS Academic Rules).

    However, students must graduate within the enrollment period [6 years (12 semesters), Architecture major 7 years (14 semesters)].

  • Earn the required minimum credits (general education and major).
    • General education required credits include compulsory and elective subjects, and students must meet the minimum required credits in each area.
    • Students must also complete the minimum required credits for major (core and elective courses).

      The required minimum graduation credits are based on the year of admission, with 48 credits for general education, and up to 51 credits for the College of Business and the College of Humanities.

  • A GPA of 2.00 or higher for all courses.
  • Graduation qualification certification (for double majors, the student must also pass the certification for the double major department).

Graduation certification

Certification areas
  • Foreign language [Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) applicable for international undergraduate students]
  • Substitution for foreign language certification: Complete at least 9 credits in courses taught in a foreign language (excluding compulsory English courses and courses approved for overseas exchange credits) with a grade of B0 or higher. If a student applies for substitution based on these criteria, they must submit the necessary documentation.

    Submit documents: Highlight the courses taught in a foreign language in the transcript and include the course numbers and sections when uploading to the university’s administrative system.
    However, early graduation candidates and international students who enrolled through new or transfer admissions cannot substitute foreign language certification (they must meet the certification criteria through external certification exams).

  • Social service (applicable to students entering from the 2015 academic year; for transfer students, this applies to those under the 2015 curriculum)
Exemption
  • Foreign language: Students in the arts and physical education fields, students admitted through special admissions for special education, international students, students in contract departments, and those specially certified by the graduation qualification certification committee.
  • Social service: International students, students in contract departments, and those specially recognized by the graduation qualification certification committee.
Application period
  • No separate application period.

    However, for February graduates, certification must be completed by December 31 of the previous year; for August graduates, certification must be completed by June 30.

Application method
  • Apply online via the UOS portal
    • Log in to the UOS portal

    • Select “Graduation - Graduation Certification Application”

    • Enter your student ID and search

    • Click the “New” button at the bottom

    • Enter "Major Classification, Certification Field (English), Certification Type, Exam Date, Score, Application Year, and Application Date" For TOEFL IBT, enter your ID and password

    • Select “Graduation - Graduation Certification Application”

    Applications will not be processed if the validity period of the test score (2 years from the test date) has expired.

Required documents
  • Original copy of an external certified English proficiency test score: Submit a valid score within 2 years from the date of submission.

    Only scores from regular (periodic) exams will be recognized for foreign language certification.
    [Scores from special exams requested by specific institutions or organizations will not be accepted for graduation certification.]

For students who choose only external English proficiency exams:

Certification score requirements for each choice option:

  • English Speaking certification criteria score (for Department of English Language and Literature, a score one level higher than the standard is required).
    • TOEIC Speaking: 110 or higher (for Department of English Language and Literature, 140 or higher)
    • TEPS Speaking: Grade 3 (41-50 points) or higher
    • OPIC Speaking: Grade IL (Intermediate Low) or higher
    • Versant (formerly Phone Pass): 42 or higher
    • For iBT: Conversion score 15 or higher
  • English Writing certification criteria (for Department of English Language and Literature, a score one level higher than the standard is required)
    • TOEIC Writing: 110 or higher (for Department of English Language and Literature, 130 or higher)
    • TEPS Writing: Grade 3 (41-50 points) or higher
    • For iBT: Conversion score 17 or higher

  • Chinese: HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi, 漢語水平考試) level 5 or higher
  • Japanese: JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) level 3 or higher
  • Kanji
    • National Kanji Ability Test level 2 (2,355 characters) or higher
    • Chamber of Commerce Kanji level 2 or higher
    • Kanji Proficiency Test level Pre-1 (2,500 characters) or higher
    • Nationally certified Kanji qualification test level 2 (2,300 characters) or higher
  • French: DELF, DALF DELF B1 or higher
  • German: GZ B1 or higher

Social service certification criteria
  • Applies from students entering in 2015 (new or transfer students).
  • Complete 30 hours or more of domestic volunteer work recognized through the national public service verification system or by completing related courses while enrolled.
Substitute courses
  • Eligible students: Students who have not met the certified test criteria by the 7th semester.
    Early graduation students must meet external certification criteria.
  • Completion period: After the 8th semester.
  • Completion method: Complete designated courses from the Global Foreign Language Education Center and achieve a grade of B˚ or higher for each course.

    For social service, additional substitute courses must be completed.
