[Admissions] I am curious about the newly established International Development Cooperation major for the 2024 academic year.

The International Development Cooperation major has been newly established in the International School of Urban Sciences for the 2024 academic year. 


The International Development Cooperation major aims to provide a research platform, practical experience, and human connection networks in the field of international development cooperation for sharing urban policies of Seoul and mutual development in developing countries. It seeks to cultivate experts in international development cooperation who possess theoretical foundations, specialized knowledge, practical skills, and human networks, contributing to the revitalization of the ODA ecosystem.

[Others] How can I have an additional student ID issued?

There are student ID cards that function as Woori Bank debit cards (with additional transportation card features) and regular student ID cards.

If you want to add debit card functionality, please visit the Woori Bank branch on the first floor of the University Center and proceed with this separately.


Main features of the student ID (common)

∘ Basic functions: ID card, book borrowing, library study room usage, etc.

∘ Additional functions: Individual registration after issuing the student ID.

- Campus building access registration (B1F, Security Control Room, University Center)

- Electronic voucher usage registration (Kiosk room in the Student cafeteria, 1F, Student Hall)


Issuance of student ID (bulk application through Woori Bank, the main transaction bank)

* The student ID will be issued after bulk application through Woori Bank (the main transaction bank), so please apply within the deadline to avoid any delays.


Application method: <Step 1> Consent to the use of personal information and provision to third parties. 

▶ Agree to the “Consent for Provision of Personal Information to Third Parties” when signing up for the University of Seoul portal (portal.uos.ac.kr).

❶ Portal login → My Page → Consent for the Use of Personal Information

❷ Agree to ‘Student ID issuance’ [optional]

* If you do not agree to the [optional] item, bulk issuance will not be possible.

▶ Period: Until Wed, Aug. 16, 2023

<Step 2> Mobile application for the ID card

▶ Use your ID to apply using the Woori Bank ‘Woori WON Banking’ app

❶ Search for ‘Woori WON Banking’ in the Play Store/App Store and install the app.

❷ Follow the application manual (Attachment 1: University ID Card Application Manual) to proceed with your application.

※ If you do not agree to the “Use of Personal Information (Student ID Issuance)” within the specified period, you will not be able to retrieve your student ID number during the application process.


▶ Period: Fri, Aug. 25 – Thu, Aug. 31, 2023

Issuance date: Available for receipt 15 days after the application date.


Method of receiving the student ID: Pick up at the selected pickup location (home/Woori Bank University of Seoul branch) when applying via mobile.

① Mailed to your home address (the address entered during application) for direct receipt.

② Pick up at the Woori Bank University of Seoul branch (1F, University Center) after presenting your ID.

※ Home refers to the address where you can receive mail, and it is necessary to enter it accurately (to prevent loss).

When choosing the pickup location, please consider that the Woori Bank branch may be crowded due to counter service, and select your pickup location accordingly.

Application method outside the period: Individual application at the Student Service Center (02-6490-6260~2) and refer to the Student Service Center for issuance.


Issuance at the Student Service Center

* Eligibility for issuance: Foreign students, new students in contractual departments, and currently enrolled students who do not wish to have the ID issued through Woori Bank, etc.

▶ Fill out and submit the application form for the new student ID card issuance.

❶ Confirm your student ID number and download the consent form, then complete the application form.

⁕ Consent form ☞ Individually notified via graduate school announcements and email [Guidelines for Student ID Issuance for the 2023 Academic Year]

* Be sure to confirm your student ID number (not the exam number) and your signature.

❷ Submit the consent form (in-person submission is allowed).

▶ Schedule: From Fri, Sep. 1, 2023


Method of receiving the student ID: Pick up in person at the Student Service Center after 

presenting your ID.

Application method outside the period: Individual application at the Student Service Center (from Sep. 2023)


Mobile student ID

- A mobile ID app that can be used on campus (QR code student ID)

- Issuance method

❶ Play Store/App Store ⇨ Download the ‘University of Seoul Mobile ID’ app.

❷ Log in using your University of Seoul portal ID and password.

❸ Issue the mobile student ID.

- Functions: ID card, library access and book borrowing, electronic voucher function (excluding building access function)

- Issuance period: Available for use immediately after creating a University of Seoul portal account.


Reissue (loss, card malfunction, etc.)

∎ How to apply

Visit 1F, Student Hall, Student Service Center (09:00–18:00; Mon–Fri)

- New application page (smartmobile.uos.ac.kr/web) → Log in with portal ID/PW → Smart CARD → Smart CARD issuance application → Write reason for issuance → Submit application

※ Reissuance will be completed on the same day of the application (reissuance cost is free).

∎ Notes

- After reissuance, you need to register again for electronic vouchers and building access, etc.

- Registration location: Electronic voucher (1F, Welfare Office, Student Hall), building access (B1F, Security Control Room, University Center)


[Others] How do I register for parking? (Parking methods, parking fees, etc.)

How to Register for Parking Permit

∎ Graduate students are recommended to use the daily parking permit, and can apply by contacting the administration office (02-6490-5142).

Parking Fees and Parking Lot Information

∎ The parking fee for a 1-day (24-hour) discount permit is ₩3,000. Payment can be made by card at the unmanned payment machine when exiting within 24 hours after entry.

(Cash is not accepted. Parking fee reductions are available for vehicles belonging to national merit holders, families with multiple children (Haengbok Card), small cars, and during electric vehicle charging.)

How to Issue Certificates through the School Website

Click on Campus Life at the top of the school website (uos.ac.kr) → Internet Certificate Issuance (bottom right of the website) → Certificate Issuance → Log in (members: enter portal ID and password; non-members: enter program (undergraduate/graduate), name, 6-digit date of birth and authentication certificate) → Internet certificates can be issued.

※ For EMS, the delivery period may vary depending on local circumstances.

∎ Notes

- Undergraduate and graduate certificates must be applied for separately, and the mailing fee should be deposited only once per delivery address.

- As it is sent via registered mail, the recipient’s contact number must be provided.

- Individuals not registered in the university administration system should register for a portal account or contact the Student Service Center (02-6490-6260~2).


[Academics] Information related to events (Sports Day, GFN, etc.)

The International School of Urban Sciences organizes various events such as sports competitions, field trips, and Global Friends Night (GFN).


Han Maeum Sports Day (April)

The sports event is organized to enhance mutual exchange and promote unity by providing a space for harmony and communication for all members of the graduate school.


Field Trip (May)

The Field Trip is a program in which Korean and international students of the graduate school participate together, sharing professional knowledge and strengthening bonds.

The sites for industrial visits are selected nationwide, providing an opportunity to observe the creation and operation of industrial facilities on-site, as well as to experience professional education and practical work.


Global Friends Night (August)

Global Friends Night (GFN) is the largest global networking event of the International School of Urban Sciences, where current students, alumni, and domestic and international experts from various fields come together.


Overseas Internship (choose either summer vacation or winter vacation)

As part of strengthening the global network, the graduate school provides overseas internship scholarships for current students, dispatching them to various overseas contracting agencies, field sites, and educational institutions. This offers opportunities to implement regional conditions and gain in-depth experience in overseas construction and various practical skills, fostering professionals equipped with international business sense and a global network.


[Academics] How are thesis evaluations and non-thesis oral examinations conducted?

Thesis Evaluation

The thesis evaluation consists of a mid-presentation and the final evaluation.

∎ Eligibility: Current students or alumni who have completed four or more semesters and are registered as graduate research students

∎ Application date

- Mid-term presentation: Every April and October

∎ Examination date

- Mid-term presentation: Publicly conducted by each department or field in May and November each year.

- Final evaluation: Conducted publicly by each department or field for those who have passed the mid-term presentation in early June and early December each year.

※ The manuscripts for the mid-presentation and final evaluation must be submitted to the examiners after receiving guidance from the advisor.


Oral Exam

The oral exam is the final exam conducted concurrently with the thesis evaluation and is carried out simultaneously upon completion of the thesis evaluation.

※ Those who pass the thesis evaluation and the oral examination must diligently follow the guidance of their advisor to revise and improve their thesis and finalize the document.

∎ Eligibility: Current students or alumni who have completed four or more semesters and are registered as graduate research students

∎ Examination date: Conducted publicly by each department or field in June and December each year

※ The manuscript for the oral exam must be submitted to the examiners after receiving guidance from the advisor.

※ Those who pass the oral examination must diligently follow the guidance of their advisor to revise and improve their thesis based on the evaluation and finalize the manuscript.

Basis for Implementation

Articles 18 to 24 of the International School of Urban Sciences Implementation Regulations


Eligibility

∎ Comprehensive exam

- Those applying for a thesis degree

- Current students: Those who have earned 12+ credits and passed the foreign language examination

- Alumni: Those who have completed registration as graduate research students, earned 12+ credits, and passed the foreign language examination

- Those whose total number of attempts for the comprehensive exam, including this exam, is within 3 times

(Passing is recognized for each subject, but re-examinations for failed subjects are included in the total allowed attempts.)

∎ Degree qualification exam

- Those applying for a non-thesis degree

- Current students: Those who have earned 16+ credits and passed the foreign language examination

- Alumni: Those who have completed registration as graduate research students, earned 16+ credits, and passed the foreign language examination

- Those whose total number of attempts for the degree qualification exam, including this exam, is within 3 times

(Passing is recognized for each subject, but re-examinations for failed subjects are included in the total allowed attempts.)

* Extensions are not permitted, and examination fees have been abolished.

∎ Application method: Apply via the UOS WISE system (wise.uos.ac.kr)

∎ Exam subjects: Major subjects by each department

- Comprehensive exam: Conducted as written examinations in 2 or more subjects, with specific subjects determined by the department

- Degree qualification exam: Conducted as written examinations in 3 or more subjects, with specific subjects determined by the department

Announcement will be made on the ISUS website (isuskor.uos.ac.kr).

∎ Passing score: 70 points or above out of a total of 100 points per subject


[Academics] I would like to register as a graduate research student and only write a thesis. What are the procedures and schedule for that?

[The schedule is based on the 2024 second semester.] For the schedule of the first semester, adding 6 months will give you a roughly similar timeline.
