Welcome to ISUS. International School of Urban Sciences was launched in 2013 at the University of Seoul to serve as a global platform for knowledge exchange in the fields of sustainable urban development, infrastructure development and construction, environmental management. In particular, we seek to share with the rest of the world Korea’s experience learned from decades of rapid development and urbanization with partners around the world.
In the era of AI-driven digital transformation, we also aim to cultivate key talents who can lead digital innovation across government, industry, and public services in their home countries; and equipped with skills required to plan, manage, and implement AI-based digital technologies as part of national development strategies.
Over 100 domestic and overseas students who are working professionals in cross-related fields join us each year and, cumulatively, they represent 70 countries and 5 continents. Domestic students are to advance their knowledge and gain a global perspective so they can actively participate in international development cooperation. Overseas students are to learn about Korea’s policy experiences in addressing development problems while they acquire specialized knowledge in their focus areas.
Together, we aim to produce experts who can offer ‘solutions’ to diverse urban and regional problems, tailored to local conditions around the globe while also engaging effectively in the global market and policy community with their expertise. This ability requires not only the state-of-the-art knowledge in relevant fields, but also substantial international exposure and cross-disciplinary interaction. Building on the real-world experience they bring, our students gain scientific perspectives and advanced knowledge while interacting, culturally as well as intellectually, across the diverse student groups we have here at the International School of Urban Sciences.
