Credit Transfer Process

Credit Transfer Process

  • 1Receive transcript
Original transcript received by the UOS Office of International Affairs
    • Request the relevant department at the overseas university to mail your transcript for that semester to the UOS Office of International Affairs (be sure to confirm the transcript mailing address and schedule with the overseas university staff while studying abroad as many students struggle with delayed credit transfer due to not receiving their transcript after studying abroad).
      • For overseas universities that do not mail, the overseas university staff must email the student transcript directly to the UOS Office of International Affairs.
      • For non-English speaking countries, if transcript is issued in local language instead of English, request in advance for English transcript if possible. If English transcript is ultimately not issued, student must briefly translate local language transcript to English or Korean.
    • The UOS Office of International Affairs will notify via email to start credit transfer upon receiving transcript
  • 2Return report
Upload the return report to the UOS Office of International Affairs website
    • Overseas university promotional materials (.ppt)
    • Exchange student return report (form)
    • Exchange student satisfaction survey (form)
→ Upload above three files by region to "My experience at UOS" on the UOS Office of International Affairs website prior to credit transfer application ( ! ) Must login via UOS portal to upload
  • 3Prepare documents
Complete the credit transfer request (form) by semester
    • Complete and print the credit transfer request (form) 1 page per study abroad semester
      • (Example) If the study abroad period is 2016 second semester to 2017 first semester, complete 1 page each for 2016 second semester and 2017 first semester (total 2 pages)
      • Regarding "2. Details of substitute recognized courses"
      • In the "Courses completed at exchange university" section, enter course names in English exactly as written on transcript, then student translates to Korean. Enter "credits" and "grade" exactly as on transcript.
      • In the "Requested credit approval details" section, enter appropriate category like "Major elective," "General elective," "Liberal arts elective," etc. in "Course category," enter credits as on transcript (but convert European ECTS credits according to conversion table), and enter grade as on transcript.
Specify class content and hours according to the course syllabus
    • For courses to transfer as major or general electives, class hours don't need to be specified if not experimental/practical courses. However, experimental/practical courses or foreign language classes (to transfer as liberal arts electives) must clearly show class hours on syllabus (1 credit per 30 hours). If class hours cannot be confirmed on syllabus, must obtain separate documents like class schedule to confirm hours.
    • As syllabus often cannot be obtained after returning to Korea, be sure to obtain syllabus while studying abroad.
※ English majors studying at Chinese universities are advised to take note of syllabus preparation for major courses (must specify detailed class content).
